Technical Director
What is a technical director?
A technical director is usually the most senior technical person within a company. They are highly skilled in a specific area and may be recognised as an expert.
The daily activities of a technical director
· researching new processes and techniques
· identifying new technologies and technical developments
· advising on the introduction of new machinery and materials
· writing technical reports and cost estimates
· liaising with customers, staff and suppliers
· organising a team and resolving production problems
· keeping up to date with new technologies and manufacturing techniques
HOURS AND ENVIRONMENT:
Typical hours: around 37 per week.
Environment: laboratory and on-site at production facilities.
SKILLS AND INTERESTS:
· in-depth knowledge of textiles and how they are produced
· an understanding of customer markets
· fabric design and construction skills
· good communication, project management and leadership skills
· research, development and problem solving skills
· IT skills
· the ability to document and report findings
ENTRY :
Extensive experience in a relevant technical role is also required before progressing into this senior position.
ANNUAL INCOME :
Starting salary: around £35,000 a year.
Rising to: over £40,000 a year with experience.
