Chief Innovation Officer


What is chief innovation officer?
 
A chief innovation officer (CIO) is responsible for the research and innovation side of a business. They need to have extensive knowledge of their company’s products and target audience. With experience, successful CIO’s could set up their own company.
 
The daily activities of a chief innovation officer
 
·      negotiating with customers, suppliers and sales teams
·      creating innovation plans and producing prototypes
·      researching new products and manufacturing techniques
·      working with scientists, researchers and technicians
·      assessing the target market and current trends
·      writing technical reports and cost estimates
 
They would also need to be able to:
 
·      lead a team and manage deadlines
·      understand new technologies and IT
·      have up-to-date knowledge of materials and machinery


HOURS AND ENVIRONMENT:


Typical Hours: between 40 and 70 per week.

Environment: office or laboratory. Travel within the UK and abroad is common.

·      excellent commercial knowledge

ANNUAL INCOME :


 
Starting salary: around £35,000 a year, increasing substantially with experience.
