We've already highlighted that employers working within the technical textiles sector require individuals who have studied either a science-related or textiles course (preferably a degree).  

But with so many degrees, alternatives and ways to meet institution's entry requirements, it can often be overwhelming as you try and find the best course to suit you. 

This is why we have put together a "guide to qualifications"  Simply see below and click on each qualification type for more info.

 
BTEC National Certificate
5 core units – including drawing development and materials, technical and processes
2 compulsory units – these are art & design exploration / application
5 specialist units – choose from a selection of 22 units that include pattern construction, pattern-grading and computers in art & design

Work-based training and knowledge-based learning. 
NVQ in Apparel Manufacturing Technology
Key Skills in Communication & Application of Number (Level 2)
Technical Certificate – Diploma in Apparel/Footwear Production
A-Levels (including AS/A2 Levels)
No specific components. Themed projects in the subjects of printed, dyed & constructed textiles for fashion and fine art.
Apprenticeship
Work-based training and knowledge-based learning. 
NVQ in Manufacturing Sewn Products
Key Skills in Communication & Application of Number (Level 1)
Technical Certificate – Certificate in Apparel, Footwear & Leather Production
BTEC Higher National Certificate
7 core units – including fashion & textiles materials understanding and drawing techniques and approaches
3 specialist units – choose from units including design research in textiles, research and development for fashion design and garment manufacture
BTEC Higher National Diploma
7 core units – including fashion & textiles materials understanding and drawing techniques and approaches
9 specialist units – including design research in textiles, research and development for fashion design and garment manufacture
BTEC National Diploma
