Work experience can be a great way of getting new skills and making links with industry. Some university courses offer a year-long work placement opportunity. Or if you prefer, you could arrange your own work experience in the summer holidays.

Industry or company-specific knowledge can usually be developed on the job. Employers are willing to invest in people with a good general understanding. In some cases employers may also offer a graduate development plan to support those working towards an MSc.

Recent graduates might want to take a look at the Knowledge Transfer Partnership to find work. This service gives you the opportunity to manage a specific project within a company. The jobs typically last between 12 and 38 months, and around 70% of the positions are made permanent after this time.
