Head of Innovation - Research and Development

From an early age Miranda knew she wanted to work in the fashion industry but not specifically as a designer. She chose to study a BA in clothing studies to give her a broad range of skills in areas such as design, fabric technology, garment technology, production, marketing and finance.

“During my course I was encouraged to think about innovation as a way of competing with lower cost goods from overseas. This was the starting point in my career.”

 

“I work closely with senior business leaders, creative designers and technology experts. We identify market trends and consumer needs so that we can develop new and exciting products that will create a competitive advantage for our business.”

  

 

“I really enjoy being part of a team that is looking to develop the next ‘must have’ product. We do have our disappointments, such as when something you think will work doesn’t in the end. But equally we enjoy the surprises when we unexpectedly come up with something great that works!”

 

To succeed in this area, Miranda recommends you have an appreciation for the business and sensitivity to customer needs.  

 

“You are going to need to be flexible and willing to learn as an open and enquiring mind is the 1^st pre-requisite to success. The world of textiles and clothing is changing; we have already stepped beyond the common needs of warmth, modesty and even fashion. What more can we bring to clothing in terms of protection, security and wellbeing?”
